Last year I worked merchandise for concerts and our very low level professional soccer team because I was worried about my job and wanted to “do something” in case I got laid off. I think I made about $1,500. $400 was from a single concert although it completely wrecked me because I worked 13 hours and got back after midnight and I’m old now. This amount of money doesn’t really make a difference given my salary and savings… But I kind of want to do it again… Am I stupid?
Wow, I need to figure out how to do this in my neck of the woods. I volunteered last year for an event and rec’d free tickets to one of their shows. It was fun even though the volunteering ended up asking people for donations. I guess it was normal at this event, but I would have much rather been selling merchandise. I feel ya on the old now for me. But it sounds like fun. I say go for it!
We have the Red Bull F1 coming in to town, I wish I was working that event!
Ooooh… the F1 event sounds like fun! I guess I didn’t even add up all the money I made working events last year because I worked our pro Frisbee team games too… those are so much fun I don’t even consider it work. I’ve worked with that team for like half of their existence now and they pay me really well to handle game days. Is there a “student job board” where you live? That’s how I found out about working the CrossFit games when we last hosted them. I got about $500 worth of NOBULL gear to work their merch tent at the games and free tickets. Okay. Just corresponding with you about working events made me decide to sign my offer letter for another season.
